Popular rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is set to launch the TV reality show "India's Raw Star". The weekly show will be launched on Sunday, 24 August at 7 pm on Star Plus.
The show intends to find the best rock star of India from 10 contestants whom the rapper has personally selected after several rounds of digital auditions.
Interestingly, the "Lungi Dance" singer will be seen in multiple roles, as the contestants' mentor, friend and guide. Moreover, the show will not have the standard three member judging panel.
"The contestants are getting an opportunity which I did not get 10 years ago. I had to work on my own to establish myself. I wish I had got such a platform. They are getting a chance to achieve what I did after 10 years. So, they should make the most of it," DNA quoted Singh as saying.
"India's Raw Star" will mark the return of producer Gajendra Singh, who is best known for his legendary music TV reality shows, including "Antakshari" and "Sa Re Ga Ma".
"After doing so many shows- 'Antakshari', 'Sa Re Ga Ma' and others, there was a fatigue factor. For a long time I did not do any show. So, we thought we have to really do something different this time," said Gajendra.
Model-actress Gauhar Khan will make her debut as a host with the reality show.
"I had no apprehension about taking on the role of an anchor as I was approached by Gajji. I just had one condition that I would not share the hosting duties with anyone. I think it is going to be a fun 14-week-journey. I could not have asked for anything better," said Gauhar.
India-based contestants, Dipti Sharma from Vadodara, Darshan Raval from Ahmedabad, Mohit Gaur from Jaipur, Pardeep Singh from Malout, Suraj Biswas and Rituranjan Mohanty from Puri, Mohan Rathore from Ghajipur and Mansheel from Pune will be competing for the rock star title.
While, Jeffery Iqbal from New Jersey and Rimi Nique from Thailand will also join the Indian contestants in the show.
