US-based Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company started its India operation in January 2014. Despite being a premium offering, the company found close to 200 takers in India. The two-wheeler maker is reportedly planning to go for complete knock-down (CKD) operations in India aiming to grab more market share.
Pankaj Dubey, managing director of Polaris India Pvt Ltd, confirmed the brand's intention to start local assembly after flagging off first Indian Motorcycle Riders Group (IMRG) national ride to Daman from Mumbai.
The biggest benefit for customers with the plan is that the prices of Indian motorcycles will go down. Though the location for an assembly plant in India hasn't been chosen yet, the first product can be expected in 2018.
The most affordable motorcycle of Indian Motorcycle is the Scout Sixty, which is priced at Rs 11.99 Lakh. The first model to opt CKD line will be Scout Sixty and the price is expected to go down by at least Rs 2 lakh.
Indian Motorcycle currently has dealerships in Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh, while Jaipur and Kolkata dealerships will be operational by the end of 2016. The Kochi dealership will soon retail Indian and Polaris ATV products.
The company currently sells Scout Sixty, Scout, Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain, Chief Dark Horse, Springfield and Roadmaster.
