What a Test match this was – after all the complaints about the matches lasting less than three days, we finally got one that went the distance, with India beating South Africa on the final session of the last day of the final Test of this unforgettable Freedom Series.

R Ashwin was the man to break South African hearts again, picking up yet another five-for to help India bowl South Africa out for 143. The score, though, mattered little as this final innings of the Test match was all about time, with South Africa making the bowlers bowl 143 overs and a ball to finally break through completely.

This is a match that was impressive, and then some, with all sorts of skills coming into play, be that with the bat in terms of attack and defence or with the ball in terms of making use of the conditions or staying patient.

India clinch the Freedom Series 3-0, having also picked up wins in Mohali and Nagpur. It would, most probably, have been 4-0 as well, had rain not intervened in the second Test match in Bengaluru.

However, that matters little as Virat Kohli and his band of spinning men grin their way to a series victory that should make them proud – after all South Africa is the best Test team in the world, consisting of the best batsman as well.
