The Meg actress, Ruby Rose, is all set to play the character of a homosexual superhero, Batwoman, in CW's Arrowverse and her own standalone show focusing on Batwoman.
Rose, who is a gender fluid person, will get to openly play a gay superhero role for the first time on television. After the announcement, the Aussie actress took to Instagram and expressed her excitement over joining the DC world.
"I am beyond thrilled and honoured. I'm also an emotional wreck, because this is a childhood dream," said Rose in her post. "This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different."
We will finally get to see Kate Kane, aka, Batwoman in a crossover episode this December on The CW network along with other DC comics such as Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.
After her first appearance, the Orange is the New Black star will have her own TV series about Batwoman which is currently being worked on. Caroline Dries, writer and producer of The Vampire Diaries, will serve as the writer and an executive producer, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns. The series would debut in 2019.
Kathy Kane, as she was originally known, made her comic debut in "Detective Comics" #233 (July 1956), as Batwoman, a glamorous, smart, and very straight forward superhero. The character was created by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, and Ken Lashley as a love interest for the Dark Knight
The DC Universe fans are having mixed reactions on the casting choice. A few of them feel Rose is not a good actress and that the character of Kate Kane will not be portrayed well.
Some others think that she is perfect for the role because she can pull off a bold role onscreen.
