The Indian arm of the South Korean auto major Hyundai will ramp up the production of its popular models Creta SUV and Elite i20 hatchback in the country from December in order to reduce the waiting period of the same.

While speaking to The Hindu Business Line, Bo Shin Seo -- Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at HMIL -- said that the company is planning to increase the production of Creta and Elite i20 from the present 7,000 units to 9,000-10,000 units per month from December so as to meet the increasing demand.

He also added that from then on, Hyundai will also be looking to add on around 2,000 units every month of such models based on the demand. The company which does not have a plan for a new plant at present will be utilising its Chennai facility to the maximum to meet the growing demands.

Hyundai Creta, the compact SUV that made its entry on 21 July has been creating waves in the Indian auto market since its debut. The Creta has managed to notch the top spot in the list of best selling SUVs for the two consecutive months in August and September with the sales of more 7,000 units.

Recently, Hyundai also announced a price hike for both Elite i20 and Creta by up to Rs 9,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
