Hyundai ix25 Compact SUV Spied Testing in India; Price, Launch Details

It has been a while since we last heard anything about ix25. Now here comes a new image of Korean auto major Hyundai's upcoming compact SUV ix25, indcitaing that the launch of the model is not too far off.

Snapped in Chennai by an NDTV auto reader, Anant Pratap Srivastava, the prototype of ix25 was seen fully camouflaged, thus hiding all key details of the model. ix25, the model which made its debut at Beijing Motor Show 2014, is expected to reach Indian shores by mid-2015. The company already confirmed the launch of ix25 in India, but did not reveal any details.

From what we know, India specific ix25 is likely to get power from the 1.6 litre petrol and diesel units and is likely to pack features like central console with audio controls, air con vents and climate controls.

It is not clear if Hyundai will bring the All Wheel Drive option to India. In the international markets, the ix25 is sold with 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines coupled to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions with choices of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Expected to fall in the price range of ₹8 lakh-₹12 lakh, the upcoming ix25 will be pitched against India's popular SUVs Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano when launched.ix25 is Hyundai's first offering in this segment.

In another development, Hyundai's upcoming crossover Elite i20 Cross was also caught on camera in Chennai. i20 Cross, crossover based on Hyundai Elite i20, is expected to get same engine of its smaller sibling Elite i20. The current Elite i20 packs 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor.

The petrol engine is tuned to churn out 83PS power and a peak torque of 114Nm and the diesel motor capable of generating 90PS power and a peak torque of 220Nm. When launched, the car will rival Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Volkswagen Polo Cross in India.
