Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has voluntarily recalled 13,700 units of the CBR 250R and the CBR 150R motorcycles manufactured between July 2014 and June 2015.
The recall was initiated due to the incorrect application of the sealant in the starter relay switch installment.
The Indian recall is part of a larger global recall initiated by the Honda Motor Co. The recall process starts mid-August 2015 as a precautionary measure to check and replace starter relay switch if it belongs to the defective lot, HMSI said in a statement.
The suspected problem will increase resistance across main fuse, potentially interrupting the motorcycle's battery voltage to the electrical system.
An interruption of the electrical system battery voltage could cause the engine not to start or stall while riding. The statement further says that in extreme cases, the increased resistance at the main fuse could cause the starter relay to catch fire. However, HMSI said no such incidents have been reported.
The faulty part will be replaced free of cost irrespective of warranty status across the dealership in the country.
"With this move, Honda globally reinforces its commitment to providing highest quality products and customer satisfaction," the company added in the statement.
Previously, HMSI had recalled 11,500 units of its CBR 250R motorcycles owing to a defective brake system in 2012.
