Honda Motor Co. Ltd unveiled the 'Light Weight Super Sports Concept' at the at 44th Tokyo Motor Show in October, which was strongly touted as the prototype of the new Honda CBR250RR supersports motorcycle. The latest report indicates that the company has given green light to the production version and the test run will begin in March 2016.

A report from otomotif.liputan6.com indicates the CBR250RR will be manufactured in Indonesia. The reports also says that the production version will be identical to the Light Weight Super Sports Concept.

Honda will sell the CBR250RR alongside the CBR250R in the market. The CBR250RR will be a more track-focused motorcycle. The motorcycle will be built with a body made of carbon fiber material that is light weight. Additionally the Ohlins suspension will be used for better track performance.

The CBR250RR is expected to draw power from a new 250cc twin-cylinder engine with estimated 35-40bhp of power mated to a six speed gearbox. Additionally, an Akrapovic exhaust system underlines a raucous exhaust note.

The CBR250RR concept sports telescopic suspension upside down on the front wheel and the rear wheel swing arm is supported by the suspension monoshock. The motorcycle is also equipped with disc brakes. The overall design shows sharp edges and athletic stance emphasising the aggressive look. The look is further complemented by the exterior featuring matte-black-based low-contrast graphics. These attributes are also expected in the production version.

When launched in India as a production model, the Honda CBR250RR will be pitted against the Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM RC390 and recently launched Yamaha YZF-R3.
