Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" (HNY), which released on 24 October, continues to ring the bell at the ticket counters on its second week.

Despite facing tough competition from six new releases, the film made good collections at the Indian box office on Friday and Saturday.

Released on 5,000 screens, "Happy New Year" opened to an earth-shattering response but it witnessed a steep fall over the weekend. The film kept crashing down on the weekdays too.

It had collected ₹157.57 crore nett at the domestic box office in the first week. The breakup is ₹44.97 cr on Fri, ₹31.60 cr on Sat, ₹32.29 cr on Sun, ₹15 cr on Mon, ₹13 cr on Tue, ₹11.50 cr on Wed and ₹9.21 cr on Thu.

In its second week, "Happy New Year" lost out a huge chunk of its screens to new Bollywood releases such as "Super Nani", "Fireflies", "Mumbai Can Dance Saala" and "Roar - Tigers of Sunderbans" and Hollywood films "Fury" and "Gone Girl", which took toll on its collections.

Compared to its opening day collections (₹44.97 crore), "Happy New Year" showed more than 84% dip in its business on its second Friday. On its eighth day, the film collected approximately ₹7 crore nett at the domestic box office, taking its eight-day collection to ₹164.5 crore nett. Despite having a steep fall, it still led the race, beating the new releases.

The new releases garnered mixed reviews from the viewers, which paved the way for "Happy New Year" to rock again at the ticket counters. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer became the first choice for many film goers on its second Saturday. The film, which showed improvements, has raked in ₹7.50 crore nett at the domestic box office on its ninth day. Its nine-day Indian total stands at ₹172 crore nett.

"Happy New Year" is expected to show a big jump in its collection figures on its second Sunday. Its collection is likely to cross ₹180 crore nett mark at the domestic box office in its second weekend. Trade experts had predicted that it would cross ₹200 crore nett mark in its second week. But the latest trends show that the film may not achieve this magical number in 14 days.
