Google has the tradition of announcing new software at its annual conference called Google I/O and the firmware comes running in its device usually released in the fourth quarter of the year just ahead of holiday season. This time around, the upcoming Android M is expected to be announced soon and is very likely to be introduced in the much-hyped Google Nexus 5 (2015).

The search giant is expected to unveil its next software dubbed as Android M at its Google I/O 2015 which will kick off Thursday, 28 May. Announcement of a new operating system will be seen as a hint for arrival of Google's new device as has been the case in the past like the Motorola Nexus 6 coming with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The release date of Google Nexus 5 (2015) is expected to fall in the month of October or November, as the Nexus 6 will complete a year cycle in the market by this time. The device is expected to run on Android M and come with several feature upgrades. MobiPicker has reported citing Chinese IT analyst firm Jiutang Pan's post on the Weibo website that the device will have features like a 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1440 x 2560 pixels and Snapdragon 810 processor.

Meanwhile, a report by Android Police has claimed that the Android M, which is expected to run on the Google Nexus 5 (2015), will come to devices, including the LG Nexus 5 but several others will miss it. It reported that "Nexus devices will get major system updates for two years and security patches for three years from OS release date. Security patches will alternatively be guaranteed for at least 18 months from the date of purchase in the Google Store/Play Store."

If one is to go by the latest report, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are still in the market, so all updates may come to them. The LG Nexus 5 will receive new software update till this fall and security updates for another year and the Nexus 7 (2013) will also get system update till this summer and security update till 2016 summer. However, Google devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7 (2012) will not get Google's new software Android M though it should enjoy security update for a little more time.

Google is yet to reveal the devices that will receive its upcoming Android M and it will come as a pleasant surprise if it is made known at the Google I/O.
