Google is yet to launch the final version of its latest operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but its developer preview has given enough hints that it can make a big difference to devices that would run on it, including the upcoming Google Nexus 5 (2015).
The Google Nexus 5 (2013) came with a complete package – good features and affordable price – but it was severely criticised for its low battery life.
However, the Google Nexus 5 (2015) may not have this issue, as it is expected to have a more powerful battery and run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which might boost battery life of devices that will receive its update.
According to a report by German blog Computerbase (via 9to5 Google), the battery standby time of LG Nexus 5 (2013) increases by almost three times when it runs on first developer preview of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The battery of the device running on Lollipop was down by 12% when left for 24 hours and 24% when kept on standby for 48 hours, while the one running on Android Marshmallow was down only by 4.5% in 24 hours and 9% in 48 hours. The test has given a clear hint that it may boost the battery life of a device.
The good news is that the Nexus 5 (2015) may not only run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow but also have a more powerful battery, a 3180 mAh non-removable battery compared to the 2300 mAh battery seen in its predecessor. So, it seems users of the upcoming device will not face battery issues.
The search giant is expected to collaborate with LG for its Nexus 5 (2015) codenamed "LG Bullhead" and the device is expected to be released in October or November, by which time the Nexus 6 would have completed a year.
Nothing is confirmed as of now but reports have claimed that the Nexus 5 (2015) will come with several feature upgrades over its predecessor. It is expected to have a 5.2-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3 GB RAM, 13 MP rear camera, 2 MP secondary snapper, fingerprint sensor and Android Pay.
GizmoChina has reported that the device will house 64 GB internal memory, 4 GB RAM, 3180 mAh non-removable battery, 13 MP main camera, and 4 MP front snapper, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2., and USB Type-C connector.
Google is also expected to sell the Nexus 5 (2015) at an affordable price following severe backlash it received for the Nexus 6 steep price hike. Geeksnack has reported that it will be priced under $500, though nothing is confirmed.
