Akshay Kumar's "Gabbar Is Back" has shattered the opening weekend box office record of his own film "Baby" at domestic collection centres.

After recording the highest opening day collection, "Gabbar Is Back" has now taken the lead with its opening weekend collection. With ₹39.41 crore income, the masala entertainer has recorded the highest debut weekend total at the box office in 2015.

"#GabbarIsBack Fri 13.05 cr, Sat 11.36 cr, Sun 15 cr [revised]. Total: ₹ 39.41 cr. India biz. TERRIFIC," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"#GabbarIsBack had a TERRIFIC Day 3. Word of mouth is super. Fri 13.05 cr, Sat 11.35 cr, Sun 14.50 cr. Total: ₹ 38.90 cr. India biz," he added.

"Baby", also starring Akshay, held the record of highest opening weekend box office collection with ₹36.07 crore earnings, until the release of "Gabbar Is Back".

Now the masala entertainer takes the top spot, followed by "Baby" and Ranbir Kapoor-Arjun Rampal starrer "Roy" (₹28.68 crore).

The box office collection of "Gabbar Is Back" showed tremendous growth on the third day due to word of mouth. After having a good opening, the collection dropped on second day, but it showed good jump on Sunday, accumulating good numbers in the first three days.

"Gabbar Is Back" remained unaffected after the release of Kamal Haasan starrer "Uttama Villain" aka "Uthama Villain". The collection of "Gabbar Is Back" was expected to drop, especially in south, after the release of Kamal Haasan's movie, but it maintained a strong hold.

The film, which has been released in over 3200 screens in India, is a solo release and will dominate the box office during weekdays.

The film, produced under Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali production banner, features Akshay along with Shruti Hassan, Sunil Grover and Suman Talwar in pivotal roles, while Kareena Kapoor Khan has done a cameo.
