Leaders from the Group of 20 member countries and other nations have arrived in the Australian city of Brisbane for the two-day Summit starting Saturday.

What is the G20 Summit?

The G20 Summit is an annual global leaders' meet where they discuss world economic order. During the year, finance ministers and government bank governors meet regularly to discuss ways to strengthen the global economy, reform international financial institutions and improve financial regulations

The G20 forum comprises of 19 countries and the European Union and the president of the forum invites guest countries each year. The G20 Leaders' Summit started in 2008 after the global financial downturn, and the meetings have helped bring the world economy on track to some extent.

The G20 has introduced several trillion dollars' worth of financial stimulus, which has helped the world economy through its initial stages of recovery. It aims for sustainable development and growth.

What will be Discussed at the 2014 G20 Summit ?

The 2014 G20 Summit will discuss the geopolitical tensions in Russia and Ukraine, and the Middle East crisis will probably dominate the talks.

Preliminary talks between US president Barrack Obama and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy suggest that "security" will be a major topic of discussion at the meeting.

Climate change and environment threats are also expected to be discussed at the G20 Summit. However, Australia is reportedly planning on sticking to the "global economy" script. The leaders plan to boost global economic growth by 2 percent in the next five years and creation of new jobs is also on the agenda, reports Reuters.

Global leaders are also discussing the Ebola threat and want all the countries to help fight the outbreak.

G20 Summit Protests

Masses have been gathering in Brisbane from nearby areas to stage protests and suggest topics that the leaders should discuss at the summit. The police is reportedly expecting 13 separate protests.

"Over the next three days you can expect to see a large number of these motorcades in the inner-city, in South Brisbane and in the vicinity of Brisbane Airport," Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett was quoted by The Brisbane Times.

"This will undoubtedly be our busiest day as it's the first day of the formal meeting of the G20," he added. "We will just deal with the protest activity as it emerges tomorrow."
