Mukesh Ambani has retained the top position in the list of India's richest for the ninth consecutive year, with a fortune of US$18.9 billion, according to Forbes India.

Pharma tycoon Dilip Shanghvi and tech magnate Azim Premji managed to retain the No 2 and No 3 positions with a net worth of $18 billion and $15.9 billion respectively.

The report points out that despite the country set to register a growth of 7% in FY 2015, several billionaires suffered a loss of over $1 billion each, especially due to rupee depreciation and a weak stock market.

"After the euphoria of 2014, India is facing a reality check in 2015. This has impacted several big fortunes in the top 100. But India's entrepreneurial spirit remains buoyant as is evident from the dozen new faces on the list" said Forbes Asia India editor Naazneen Karmali.

The foremost among the billionaires, whose fortunes were affected, is steel baron Lakshmi Mittal, whose lost $4.6 billion. He slipped down three positions to No 8 in the list.

Meanwhile, there are 12 newcomers among the top 100, of which the wealthiest is Stallon Group's Sunil Vaswani, debuting at No 48 with a net worth of $2 billion.

India's first e-commerce billionaires -- Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal of Flipkart -- have also made debut in the top 100 list, positioned at No 86 with a fortune of $1.3 billion each.
