Actors not only need hard work and passion to gain stardom in Bollywood, but they also need luck. The film industry has proved to be a turning point for many actors who garnered success in a short span, but some took a long time to taste victory.

Here are a few actors who came to limelight after giving unexpected blockbusters.

Salman Khan – "Wanted"

The "Dabangg" star has always entertaine audience, but there was a time when Salman Khan's films were not doing well. Prabhu Dheva's directorial "Wanted" proved a turning point in the actor's career, after which Salman has continued to give massive hits in Bollywood including "Kick," and "Ek Tha Tiger". The actor will next be seen in "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Deepika Padukone – "Cocktail"

Deepika Padukone was criticised in the initial phase of her career due to her poor acting skills. But the hot diva proved everybody wrong when she appeared in "Cocktail." The film turned out to be a blockbuster hit and reached the 100 crore club.

Shahid Kapoor – "Haider"

As we all know, Shahid Kapoor has only two-three good films to his credit like "Kaminey" and "Jab We Met" in his eleven years of acting career. But last year was a turning point in the actor's life. Kapoor appeared in Vishal Bharadwaj's "Haider" which got him several awards including Best Actor. Now the actor is preparing for his next with Alia Bhatt – "Shandaar" and "Udta Punjab".

Alia Bhatt – "Highway"

Alia Bhatt made her debut with Karan Johar's "Student of the Year" but didn't impress viewers with her performance.The young actress then appeared in Imtiaz Ali's "Highway" opposite Randeep Hooda and broke all misconceptions that she can't act. The actress won several awards for the film in which she even showed her singing skills.

Kangana Ranaut – "Queen"

Kangana Ranaut became invisible for some time. But then she came back with a bang with her film "Queen". 

Abhishek Bachchan – "Happy New Year"

Abhishek Bachchan has shown his acting skills in films like "Guru" but has never been able to be in the top actors list. After a fall in his acting career, the actor re-gained the pace last year with Farah Khan's "Happy New Year." The film was one of the highest grosses of 2014, which reached thr 100 crore club.
