"Empire" will return to Fox on Wednesday, 23 September, at 9pm with a new set of drama from Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), his ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P Henson) and their three children in the premiere episode titled "The Devils Are Here".

As the title suggests, the pilot sequel will mainly focus on the various challenges faced by the protagonist and his family. One of them could be coming from Anika Calhoun aka Boo Boo Kitty (Grace Gealey).

A promotional photo of the premiere episode shows a confrontation between Lucious' ex fiancee and Henson's character. The image indicates that things are going to heat up between the two.

Jamal's ex-girlfriend Michael (Rafael de La Fuente) will also bring new challenges for the Lyon family. The couple broke up in the first of season of "Empire" but they may get back together in the upcoming sequel.

Jussie Smollett recently revealed that many of his character's decision will not be very appealing. "Watch out for Jamal: He's like the gay 2Pac -- he ain't playing! People aren't always going to agree with the choices that Jamal makes. He's changing, and sometimes those changes are not going to be so great," he told Billboard.

"Empire" season 2 will also introduce a new moody and outspoken teenage rapper named Betty Barz in the premiere episode. She is apparently an African-American lesbian girl who is also known as The Queen O' 16S and Betty Gathers, according to TV Line.

The guest stars to appear in the show include Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Adam Busch, Chris Rock, Andre Royo, Adam Rodriguez, Marisa Tomei and Kelly Rowland.

Tune in to Fox on Wednesday, 23 September, at 9pm to know more about Lucious and his family in the premiere of season 2 episode titled "The Devils Are Here".
