If you've watched the latest trailer of "Downton Abbey" season 6, you know already that Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) is in London, away from her unlucky life in Downton. The middle born of the Crawley sisters hopes to start life afresh in the bustling metropolis, but by Laura Carmichael's own admission, things will not go smoothly as envisaged.

If you're feeling sad for her as we are and hoped that Julian Fellowes would give her a break, it doesn't seem likely. In an interview with the New York Times, the "Downton Abbey" creator said, "I think in life there are people who are unlucky — the bread always falls with the butter side down. Edith is an example of that."

The final season of the British period drama's plot will lend Lady Edith a bittersweet ending. The ambitious yet confused Crawley will move to London with her daughter, Marigold, and take up her place in her late partner, Gregson's newspaper company.

Whilst submerging herself in the news business, Lady Edith will struggle, most importantly, with male employees who have a difficult time accepting a woman as a boss. As the series unfolds, we can expect to find a strong willed Edith who manages to stay at the helm. But this professional success will come at the cost of her personal happiness.

Carmichael, in an interview said, "It's a question of whether or not she can fully embrace London life, move down and live in Gregson's flat and become an editor – as we join her she's not quite ready for that."

Back in Downton, Edith and Mary's sibling rivalry continues. Mary (Michelle Dockery) will be unforgiving towards her younger sister and Marigold. During a press conference, Dockery revealed that Mary's chagrin towards Edith is heightened this year.

But in Carmichael's words, her relationship with Michelle is a depiction of difficult familial relationships. She said, "Relationships like that don't have an ending, they will continue that way."

"Downton Abbey" season 6 premieres in the UK on Sunday, 20 September at 9pm on ITV.
