BBC's prestigious drama series "Doctor Who" will start airing episodes of season 9 from 19 September, and fans are already buzzing with excitement. We have the complete list of celebrities who will be a part of the upcoming season, along with some tidbits on what the fans can expect, in terms of plot.

The first episode of the upcoming season, titled "The Magician's Apprentice" will be the first half of a two-part story-line, second of which is titled "The Witch's Familiar". Meanwhile, a prequel to it, will be released on 15 and 16 September 2015, alongside the 3D cinematic release of "Dark Water" and "Death in Heaven".

While Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will reprise the roles of the Doctor and Clara Oswald respectively, the latest buzz is that Reece Shearsmith, who played Patrick Troughton in a docu-drama about the conception and making of "Doctor Who", in "An Adventure in Space and Time" will also join them in a guest role. Although his character's name or the episode he is appearing in is not revealed, from what we do know, it can be confirmed that he will be seen in season 9 episode 8.

The episode written by Mark Gatiss is expected to be a very scary one, and completely different from the others. "I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode - which, I can say with authority, will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who," says Shearsmith.

Shearsmith, who calls being a part of the show a badge of honour, has reportedly been badgering Gatiss for ten years for a role in the iconic series. "I'm delighted to be writing again for Peter and Jenna's brilliant TARDIS team and very excited about this particular story. It's been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now! I'm also chuffed to bits to finally welcome my old friend Reece Shearsmith onto the show," says Gatiss.

Here is a list of other actors that will share the badge of honour with Shearsmith in "Doctor Who" season 9:

  • Elaine Tan - "Eastenders" and "Entourage"
  • Neet Mohan - "All in Good Time" and "Desert Dancer"
  • Bethany Black - "Cucumber" and "Banana
  • Paul Courtenay Hyu - "Dalziel and Pascoe" and "Coronation Street"
