The year 2013 has changed the history of box office with several films breaking records.  "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Chennai Express", "Krrish 3" and others have all hit the screens with unprecedented energy and effect.

"Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone was the first blockbuster hit of the year. The film which was a non-holiday release created records at the box office and became the third highest grosser film of the year.

In August, "Chennai Express" was released on Eid. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika became the highest holiday opener with ₹33.12 crore and went on to become the highest grosser film of the year.  

After two months, Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3" was released and took over the top spot as the highest non-holiday grosser with ₹25 crore.

However, after the release of Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3" all the records were broken. The film on the opening day collected ₹36.22 crore which is the biggest opening day amount any film has raked in the history of Indian cinema.
