Wrapping up his hugely successful visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi boarded his flight back to India looking forward to the launch of his pet project -- Swachh Bharat Campaign -- on Thursday. The launch will be followed by his interaction with people across the nation over radio, a day after.
The Swachh Bharat Mission or Clean India Campaign, initiated by Modi, will be launched on 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti, from Boat Club area on Rajpath in New Delhi on Thursday morning where the PM will also flag off a road walkathon.
Modi will begin his day by visiting Raj Ghat and later take part in a programme at Valmiki Sadan, a Dalit colony at Mandir Marg. The PM will himself be seen sweeping areas of Valmiki Colony since he wanted to start with a place associated with Gandhiji. As Gandhi had lived in the basti for many days and also since most of New Delhi Municipal Council 'safai karamcharis' also reside here, it was the perfect choice for an initiative like this.
A pre-cleanup of the entire area has already begun and police have started verification of every resident staying in the colony, for security reasons. Barricades have been placed and residents' entry to the park has been prohibited until Thursday's event, The Indian Express reported.
Meanwhile, as Delhi gets ready to welcome Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission, people across the country are eagerly waiting for him to come live on radio.
The citizens of India will get the opportunity to chat with Modi over radio on Friday. Modi, who will be live on All India Radio on 3 October at 11am, will discuss people's concerns and invite their suggestions on India's development. Thereafter, Modi will be interacting with the public on radio once every two weeks.
