Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday suspended BJP legislator OP Sharma for the rest of the winter session of Delhi Assembly for his alleged sexist remark against Aam Aadmi Party legislator Alka Lamba.

On Tuesday, Sharma was suspended, effectively for two days, since the session ends on Thursday.

Sharma alleged called Lamba a "bazaaru mahila", prompting AAP lawmakers, including Lamba to demand that Sharma should be jailed and disqualified.

"We will not budge from our demand. He must be sent to jail and disqualified," Lamba said.

The house has referred the matter to the Ethics Committee.

After Sharma abused Lamba of Tuesday, Goel condemned his remark and said: "Sharma has violated the decorum of the Assembly by using derogatory comment against an AAP woman legislator. It is shameful act".

Although Sharma's remark triggered protests by AAP lawmakers who shouted slogans against him outside his official residence, he maintained that there was nothing derogatory about his remark, according to media reports.
