Manchester City playmaker has committed his future to the Premier League champions by putting pen to paper to a new five-year contract at the Etihad.

"David Silva has agreed terms on a new five-year deal at the Barclays Premier League champions," read a statement on the Citizens official website.

The Spanish midfielder, who completed a £24m switch from Valencia in the summer of 2010, has established himself as one of the key players in the squad, helping City lift two Premier League titles (2011/12, 2013/14), an FA Cup (2011) and a League Cup (2014) in the space of four years.

And the 28-year-old, who has made 130 appearances for the Citizens in the Premier League, says that he made his decision to extend his contract at City without the slightest of hesitations.

"It was a straightforward decision to extend my stay here and spend my peak years at Manchester City, a club with unbelievable fans who have always supported me," Silva told City's official website.

"From the moment I joined the club four years ago it has felt like a second home to me. On and off the pitch, I feel incredibly content and fulfilled, so why wouldn't I stay and keep winning trophies with a fantastic team?"

Having achieved so much success in the past four years, Sliva is certain that City will soon prove to be one of the best clubs in Europe.

"Over the last four years, we have achieved so much together, establishing City as a dominating force in England. Now, when I look around this dressing room, I can see no reason why we won't become one of the top teams in the world," the player added.

Meanwhile, City's latest signing Eliaquim Mangala has revealed that he is still battling with fitness ahead of the new Premier League season.

The 23-year-old defender, who recently became the most expensive defender in England after completing a £32 million switch from Porto, did not make a single appearance in Brazil, despite being selected in France's 23-man World Cup squad.

And Mangala has revealed that he is still not 100 percent fit ahead of City's Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Sunday.

"Holidays are great but, if the time is too long, it is difficult to come back. I think that I will need a bit of time in order to be 100%, but it is normal - it is like those who returned to training last week, but I will work hard in order to be 100% as soon as possible."
