With victory over Uruguay, tournament favourites Argentina have registered their first victory in Copa America and hence have 4 points alongside Paraguay. Argentina defeated Uruguay 1-0 at Estadio La Portada de La Serena.

Argentina have inched closer to the knockout stage, as they are expected to defeat Jamaica in their last round robin fixtures.

The match between the two South American giants was widely anticipated as one of the biggest clashes in the tournament.

There was nothing much to write home about the way the first 45 minutes progressed, which was not as exciting as one will expect from an Argentina and Uruguay fixture. But one thing was for sure, both teams were not giving an inch to one another, which resulted in some tough physical play.

Moving onto the second half, Sergio Aguero scored a brilliant header to win the game for Argentina.

Argentina deserved the lead as they looked a better team in the first 45 minutes of the game, but it was Uruguay's defense, which held firm and the likes of Lionel Messi and Aguero could not find the back of the net.

One thing is for sure that Uruguay did miss the services of Luis Suarez, who could have turned the game on his head with his individual brilliance. In his absence, Uruguay have been highly dependent on Edinson Cavani, who is much better with Suarez playing alongside him.

Suarez is serving suspension after his biting incident in 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

It was not that Uruguay did not receive chances to score, but their players failed to convert. Uruguay's Rolan missed a golden chance to draw level in the 75th minute of the game from 10 yards.

Had he scored, the game could have changed as Uruguay might have an upper hand in the closing stages of the game. They even threatened Argentina's goal in the last 15 minutes or so.

The game might not have lived upto its expectation with lots of goals, but Argentina will be more than happy with the result.
