The Congress sought an apology from Bharatiya Janata Party MP Virendra Singh on Thursday for his controversial remarks, saying the party only wants the "fair-skinned" to become prime minister.
The members of the Grand Old Party disrupted Lok Sabha proceedings and demanded that the BJP parliamentarian apologise for his "objectionable" remarks against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
"I want to tell Rahul and Scindia that these rulers are born not just from queens but also from women who do menial jobs," the BJP MP from Bhadoi had said on Wednesday.
The House was adjourned for about half an hour after Congress legislators staged protests and raised slogans during the Question Hour.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's assertion that the remarks have been expunged and she has warned the member did not help as Congress members rushed to the Well and raised slogans when the House took up Question Hour.
Though Speaker Sumitra Mahajan did not allow the adjournment motion by Congress members, she said the remark was expunged from record.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the remarks by Singh against Gandhi, Scindia and former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were "objectionable in nature and shocking".
"We saw shocking behaviour when ruling-party members, including ministers, were encouraging him," PTI quoted him as saying.
