A Huawei official has reportedly confirmed that the company is working with search engine giant Google on the new Nexus smartphone, which is slated for release later this year.

In early 2015, rumour mills started churning out speculations that there will be two new Nexus smartphones: one by the former Google partner, LG (maker of Nexus 4 and 5), and the other by Chinese telecommunication major Huawei.

While the news of LG working with Google on Nexus smartphone didn't surprise the tech circle, Huawei's collaboration did raise questions on the authenticity of the report.

Putting rumours to rest, a source inside the Huawei UK division has confirmed to our sister editon International Business Times (UK) that Huawei has indeed signed the joint venture agreement with Google to make 2015 flagship Nexus smartphone.

When prodded to divulge some details on the specifications of the new Nexus smartphone, the tipster declined it.

But the insider did note that Huawei's collaboration with Google will help boost the company's brand value in the West. A few months ago, the company was accused of being in collusion with the Chinese government and was perceived as a national threat to the US.

Huawei has made remarkable strides in the European market with its Honor series smartphones and this has helped the company to reach top five smartphone makers' chart. As per IDC (International Data Corporation) 2015 first quarter results, it stands at the fourth position below Samsung, Apple and Lenovo respectively.

Now, with the Nexus project, the Chinese company looks to make inroads in the US market.

As per the rumours, Huawei-made Nexus smartphone, codenamed 'Angler', is said to be a phablet, to be precise; it will be the successor to 5.96-inch Motorola Nexus 6, whereas the 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5 (2015), codenamed "Bullhead", will be the upgraded version of the 2014 model, codenamed "Hammerhead".

Coming back to the topic in hand, Google-Huawei's Nexus device (Angler) is expected to sport 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440p) resolution and ship with Snapdragon 810 SoC (System on Chip) and Android M OS out-of-the-box.

As far as Google-LG device (Bullhead) is concerned, it will flaunt a smaller 5.2-inch screen and house Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, like the one we see in the company's flagship G4. Other notable features that are expected to make the cut in the new Nexus device are 3D camera and fingerprint sensor.
