This is Us actress Chrissy Metz isn't going to let body-shamers dampen her spirits. The actress was on Sunday criticized for wearing a red latex mini dress to Sunday's MTV Movie and TV Awards, with body-shamers saying the attire did not flatter her figure.

On Monday, Metz hit back at her haters with a powerful message on Twitter. "For the record, I wear what I want, when I want. News flash it's MY body. #thankstho," she wrote.

Metz has been a promoter of positive body issue ever since grabbing limelight with her NBC hit show This Is Us. Interestingly, her on-screen character Kate is on the journey to lose the extra weight, and Metz will have to do the same in real-life as well.

"I think it's a coincidence that I booked—well, maybe not a coincidence—that I booked a role that's so similar to who I am and when that was obviously posed to me as, maybe this character's going to be on a weight loss journey, I was like, 'Oh! That's convenient. Okay! I could do that too,'" Metz said during an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show.

"But I'm also at the place where I accept myself for who I am so I now can get to the place I want to be," she added.

Metz said she identified with her character as she was also of the opinion that "our bodies don't define us—they just happen to be our vessels."

"Kate was me probably about nine years ago, when I first moved to L.A. and so of course I have similarities," she said. "But there are a lot of differences as well."
