Chelsea Transfer News: Schurrle, Bertrand Complete Deadline Day Moves

Chelsea have officially announced that Andre Schurrle has joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for a reported transfer fee of €30 million (£23m).

"Andre Schurrle has today joined Wolfsburg in a permanent transfer," read a statement in the club's official website.

The 24-year-old forward, who had joined Chelsea for a reported £18 million in the summer of 2013, had fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian, Oscar and Cesc Fabregas at Stamford Bridge, making limited starts for the club this season.

As a result, the World Cup winner was keen to make a move out of Stamford Bridge, with Wolfsburg interested in securing his signature.

Although the Blues were also eager to sell the German to finance their own move for Juan Cuadrado, they were not able to reach an agreement with Wolfsburg over the transfer fee of Schurrle.

The two clubs finally reached an agreement and the deal was confirmed around 6 pm CET (10.30 pm IST) on Monday, just a few minutes before the end of the German winter transfer window.

Wolfsburg, who are currently second in the Bundesliga and in the round of 32 of the Europa League, also announced the deal on their official website, revealing that Schurrle has signed a contract until 2019.

"VfL Wolfsburg and FC Chelsea have agreed terms on the transfer of world champion André Schürrle. The 24-year-old German international has signed a deal with the Wolves, binding him to the club until 2019," read a statement in the Bundesliga side's official website.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fullback Ryan Bertrand has also completed a permanent transfer to Southampton for a reported £10 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Saints.

"Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the permanent signing of Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea on a four-and-a-half-year contract," read a statement in the club's official website.

The 25-year-old, who had originally joined the Saints on a season long loan last summer, has been one of the main reasons behind Southampton's success in the English Premier League this season, forming a formidable partnership with right-back Nathaniel Clyne in the wings.

These transfers mean that Chelsea have now raised in excess of £150 million from the sales of David Luiz, Juan Mata, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Schürrle and Bertrand in the last two years.
