Kerala is a good market not just for Malayalam films, but many Bollywood and Tamil language films as well.

Many blockbuster movies ruled the Kerala box office this year and other language films are also in the list among the top five films with highest opening day collections in the state. Vikram's "I", Mohanlal's "Loham", Dulquer Salmaan's "Charlie", Vijay's "Puli" and multi-starrer "Amar Akbar Anthony" are the top films with highest release day collections in Kerala.

Although audience had huge expectations on these films, "Loham" and "Puli" later failed to make a mark leading to negative reviews. However, despite not collecting a huge sum of money on the first day of its release, Nivin Pauly's "Premam", "Oru Vadakkan Selfie" and Prithviraj's "Ennu Ninte Moideen" found a spot among the top 10 highest grossing Malayalam films list.

"I"

Vikram's romantic thriller "I", written and directed by S Shankar is one of the top grossing Tamil movies that collected almost Rs 240 crore from the worldwide box office. The movie also made a good business in Kerala and the opening day collection of the film in the South Indian state alone was Rs 3.05 crore.

"Loham"

Mohanlal and Ranjith's "Loham" collected Rs 2.19 crore on the opening day, i.e. on 20 August, in Kerala. It was the first Malayalam movie to cross the Rs 2 crore mark on the first day of release. Even though the Mohanlal starrer was a commericially successful movie by grossing Rs 15 crore, it received mixed response from the audience.

"Charlie"

Among the Christmas releases of the year, it is Dulquer Salmaan's "Charlie" that is doing tremendous business at the Kerala box office. The movie is said to have collected Rs 2.15 crore on the first day of its release. The film is still running successfully and had collected Rs 6.86 crore within four days of its release.

"Puli"

Vijay's much awaited project "Puli" collected almost Rs 1.75 crore in Kerala on its opening day. However, the mixed response it received from the audience upon release affected its box office collection. Even though it is said to have collected Rs 101.95 crore, the movie failed at the BO as it was made on a budget of Rs 118 crore.

"Amar Akbar Anthony"

Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran and Jayasurya's comedy entertainer "Amar Akbar Anthony" was one of the much awaited projects of the year, especially when Prithviraj was basking in the success of his comedy film "Ennu Ninte Moideen". The multi-starrer movie collected Rs 1.67 crore on the first day of its release in Kerala and reportedly grossed Rs 28.5 crore within 45 days of its theatrical run.
