Responding to ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army killed two Pakistani troopers in Jammu and Kashmir's Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district, PTI reported a defence spokesman as saying on Tuesday, August 14.

The operations were carried out by the Indian troops on Monday night after ceasefire violations.

"In retaliatory action to unprovoked ceasefire violations and repeated attempts to facilitate infiltration by Pakistan Army in Tangdhar sector, own troops carried out calibrated operations last night in which two Pakistani soldiers were killed," PTI quoted Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia as saying.

Kalia added that the soldiers manning the posts effectively responded to the fires.

Just a few days ago, on August 12, a policeman was killed while four security personnels were left injured after an encounter broke out between securtiy forces and militants in Srinagar's Batmaloo area.

The security forces had launched a cordon and search operation after getting a tip-off about a terrorist being present in Batmaloo area. When the terrorist fired on the forces, the search operation soon turned into an encounter and the forces were able to detain two accomplices of the terrorist.

More details on last night's ceasefire violations are awaited.
