Brett Lee to Make Movie Debut opposite Tannishtha Chatterjee, Confirms Sachin Tendulkar and Australian PM

Former Australian fast bowler and cricketer Brett Lee will soon be seen on the big screen in an India-centric International film.

The film titled "Un-Indian", is a romantic comedy and will be shot primarily in Sydney. Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee has been roped in to play the lead actress opposite Lee. Chatterjee is best known for her role in "Brick Lane" (2007), a British film.

Lee plays the role of a happy-go-lucky man who falls in love with an Indian mother (Chatterjee). "Un-Indian" is expected to hit the theatres in March 2015.

The announcement about the upcoming film "Un-Indian" was done by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Indian cricket's living legend Sachin Tendulkar during their meet at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai.

Anupam Sharma, the Australian filmmaker of Indian origin, will be directing the film and intends to start rolling the cameras by October end.

"Brett has been cast as a charming, happy-go-lucky young blond man, from Sydney, who falls in love with a 30-something Indian mother (Tannishtha) of an eight-year-old," Daily Mail quoted Sharma, who described the romantic comedy as "an India-centric international film on the lines of "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Slumdog Millionaire".

"I have worked with Brett in ad films before. And when I had the complete script in front of me, I felt I had no option but to cast him. To me, he is the ultimate combination of communication, viability and creativity." he added.

"Un-Indian" will be the first film produced by Australia India Film Fund (AIFF), a production company established in 2013. It aims at investing in Australian films with Indian subject for global audiences.

However, "Un-Indian" is not the first film by Lee, he had earlier done a cameo in bollywood film "Victory" (2009), starring Harman Baweja.

Apart from being a talented cricketer and now an actor, Lee also has great interest in music. He is a guitarist in his band "Six and Out" and is believed to be a rock star in his homeland. He had penned the lyrics of a track "You Are the One for Me," which was sung by legendary singer Asha Bhonsle. The song was listed as one of the top songs in the Indian music charts.

Not just that, Lee may also write the songs for "Un-Indian". However, the makers intend to remain tight lipped about his involvement in the songs.

Back in 2010, Lee took retirement from the Test matches and eventually backed out from international cricket tournaments too in July 2012. However, the cricketer still plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League.
