Shrey hospital

A tragic incident surfaced in Ahmedabad as a major fire broke out at the city's Shrey hospital in the wee hours of Thursday, August 6. As many as eight COVID patients, including five men and three women, died in the incident. 

40 other COVID-19 patients shifted to AMC run SVP hospital in the city as the 4th floor the Shreyas hospital caught fire.  According to the police, the fire started around 3:30 am in the ICU department of Shrey Hospital, in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad.

Fire tenders rushed, other patients rescued

Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot, even as the hospital management tried to evacuate the rest of the patients. Many other patients were rescued by police and fire department.

The Indian Express quoted LB Zala, assistant commissioner of police, B division, Ahmedabad city, he said, "The total death toll is eight persons. The fire started around 3:30 am and it has been controlled now. Many other patients were also rescued. The bodies are being sent for post mortem."

PM Modi offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire, he tweeted, "Saddened by the tragic hospital fire in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to CM@vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor@ibijalpatel Ji regarding the situation. The administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected."
