Oscar De La Hoya says that Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will shatter boxing recordsReuters

Boxing fans around the world are keenly awaiting the official confirmation on Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's fight, but till date, nothing concrete has come out of it.

Though, there have been a number of instances when the deal was said to be agreed upon between the two, they are understood to be just rumours.

There is hope that the fight of the century, which has been tentatively scheduled for 2 May at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, could take place and the final decision is expected to come out real soon.

But, it could go either way and with every passing day, boxing fans are afraid that the fight might not take place at all.

If the mega fight between the American and the Filipino does not take shape, another star fighter, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez could fight James Kirkland on the same day. But, if Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is finalised for 2 May, Canelo-Kirkland bout would be shifted to 9 May.

"You have Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto and obviously you have Manny Pacquiao. I'm really hoping it is Pacquiao, because that's the fight the whole industry wants to see, that's the fight that will revitalize the whole industry, [that's the fight that] will shatter records in boxing. I'm hoping that fight does happen. We'll just wait and see, but if it doesn't then Canelo will obviously go on May 2." De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com.

It has been understood that it is the networks -- HBO and Showtime -- that have not been able to come to a common agreement over terms for the delayed broadcast of the joint pay-per-view.

Pacquiao is contracted with HBO, while Mayweather with Showtime.

Showtime has made it clear as well that if the fight of the century does not shape up, Mayweather could either face Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto.

Though the networks might not have come to an agreement, they are also aware about the huge profit they would make from the fight, so it would not be a huge surprise if they compromise on few things and allow the fight to take place.

Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is expected to be the biggest money fight in the history of boxing.
