The first half of 2015 remained slow with only Kangana Ranaut's "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" emerging as the sure-shot winner at the box office. Till June, approximately 70 Bollywood films were released and out of that only a few managed to make it big at the box office.

Out of 70 films only "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" managed to earn more than ₹100 crore and now "ABCD 2" will enter the century club by its third weekend. The rest of the star studded films had a decent business at the box office.

Overall, the first half at the box office had an average business compared to movies released in 2014. The year started on a dull note with only Akshay Kumar's "Baby" and Varun Dhawan's "Badlapur" raking in decent amount in the first two months.

In March, Anushka Sharma's "NH10" and Ayushmann Khurrana-Bhumi Pednekar starrer "Dum Laga ke Haisha" managed to earn the production cost since it was made on low-budget.

However, April witnessed a dull period as none of the films scored well at the box office.

But the box office fate changed in May when Akshay's "Gabbar Is Back" was released. "Gabbar Is Back" followed by Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan starrer "Piku" and Kangana's "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" did remarkable business.

"Gabbar Is Back" recorded the highest opening day collection and went on to earn ₹87.52 crore. "Piku" had a slow opening, but the collection picked up rapidly during the weekends based on word of mouth. "Piku" continued to run well even in its second and third week at the domestic box office.

"Tanu Weds Manu Returns" also had the same fate. The film had a decent opening, but box office collection almost doubled during the weekend. It went on to become the first film of 2015 to cross the ₹100 crore mark.

In June, Zoya Akhtar's "Dil Dhadakne Do" and Varun Dhawan-Shraddha Kapoor's "ABCD 2" continued the box office success. "Dil Dhadakne Do" had a good opening, first weekend and first week at the box office. Even in second week Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra starrer performed well.

And then "ABCD 2" turned out to be the game changer. The film shattered the records of "Gabbar Is Back" and "Tanu Weds Manu Returns". "ABCD 2" has the highest opening day box office collection record and now the film is racing towards the ₹100 crore mark.
