Irrfan Khan-starrer "The Lunchbox" has been doing some fantastic business in the overseas markets.

The film has crossed the $3 million mark at the US-Canada box office. It has surpassed the gross collections of several Hindi biggies in the US, including Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3" ($2.1 million), Ranveer Singh's "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela" ($2.6 million), Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" ($1.2 million), Saif Ali Khan's "Race 2" ($1.5 million), Aamir Khan's "Ghajini" ($2.4 million), Shah Rukh Khan's "Ra.One" ($2.5 million) and several other films.

"#TheLunchbox has grossed higher than #RamLeela, #Krrish3, #Race2 and #JaiHo in USA-Canada. Already crossed $3 mn. Still counting," tweeted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

If the film continues its impressive run in the US, it is likely to beat the collections of some other notable projects, such as "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" ($3.1 Million), "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" ($3.2 Million), "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" ($3.8 Million) and "Don 2" ($3.6 Million) among others.

"The Lunchbox" has already emerged as the highest grossing foreign film of 2014 (so far) at the US box office.

The romantic drama is also performing well in other key overseas markets, including Canada, Hong Kong and Germany and is doing decent business in the UK as well. The film has minted over ₹28 crore from just USA-Canada and Germany markets (combined).

"#TheLunchbox *combined business* from USA-Canada [₹ 18 cr+] and Germany [₹ 10.5 cr+] is ₹ 28.5 cr+. Just from these 2 markets. AWESOME!," Adarsh tweeted.

Interestingly, "The Lunchbox" entered its 25th week in Germany on Friday (9 May).

Directed by Ritesh Batra, the film's story revolves around two strangers - a lonely accountant (played by Irrfan) and a young middle class housewife (Nimrat Kaur) - who fall in love over letters exchanged in a lunchbox.

"The Lunchbox", which hit the screens last year in India, received critical acclaim and also performed well at the box office. It minted over ₹20 crore at the Indian box office.
