This Thanksgiving weekend will see major box office clashes with big movies competing to take the top slot with their collections. However, only one will turn out to be the winner and trade experts are expecting Disney's animated Moana to hit the jackpot at the box office this Thanksgiving weekend.
Disney's much-awaited animated movie Moana is all set to conquer the box office with its grand Thanksgiving release. The film, which is about a young princess in Polynesia, is releasing on November 23 along with Brad Pitt's Allied, Billy Bob Thornton's Bad Santa 2 and Warren Beatty's Rules Don't Apply.
However, Disney's Moana will have an upper hand as not only is the animated film leading with the highest screen counts this weekend but has also received good reviews from the critics.
According to Box Office Mojo, Moana will release in around 3,800 theatres this weekend, Allied is expected to release in approximately 3,000 theatres, Bad Santa 2 in around 2,500 theatres and Rules Don't Apply in around 2,300 theatres.
Not only screen count, the animated money is also generating positive reviews, which will help the film to have a good opening at the box office. The film also has a 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is expected to increase the ticket sales of the film at the box office. And since it is an extended holiday weekend, Moana, which falls in the kid's friendly genre, will attract more family audiences.
Overall, the animated film has all the right ingredients to make it a big box office success. Box Office Mojo even reported saying that Moana, the spirited princess (voiced by Auli'i Cravalho) who meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), will even shatter the box office collection records of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to the trade website, Moana's five-day box office collection is expected to be around $85 million or $90+ million, which is higher than Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's $74.4 million total.
