PK and Dhoom 3
Box Office Collection: Aamir's 'PK' Beats 'Dhoom 3' in 15 Days; Becomes Highest Grossing Bollywood Filmfacebook

Aamir Khan's "PK" (Peekay) has replaced his last film "Dhoom 3" as the highest grossing Bollywood film ever at the domestic box office.

Aamir and Anushka Sharma starrer "PK" has taken its 15 days box office earnings to nett ₹285.56 crore, beating the record of "Dhoom 3" ₹284.27 crore. The film took just 15 days to beat the records of "Dhoom 3" in India.

Here is the domestic earnings break-up of the film: first week ₹183.09 crore, second week ₹96.44 crore and third Friday ₹6.69 crore.

The Rajkumar Hirani directorial has set a new benchmark at the box office. Earlier, with the release of the poster, Aamir did the unthinkable by posing naked and now the extraordinary performance of the film at the box office has amazed trade analysts.

The film is heading for ₹300 crore mark at domestic box office, which is a big achievement for the film industry. The film received rave reviews from critics and it has repeat value, which helped the collection of the film grow.

Audience too liked the film, but several right-wing organisations in India staged protests against it for its content. In its second week, the film faced protests and screenings were stopped in several theaters across India, but "PK" managed to score well at collection centers. The controversies didn't seem to affect the box office run of the film.

And now the film has been going tax-free in India. After Uttar Pradesh, Bihar has now declared that "PK" will be exempted from tax in the state. The tax-free status will help the film to fetch in good collections in its third week.

"Our leader Nitish Kumar advised us to exempt 'PK' from tax. We have decided to make it tax free to ensure that the poorest of the poor can watch the film that exposes the superstition and fraud taking place in the name of religion," Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi told the media at his official residence.
