Nowadays Bollywood has come up with a new trend of making biopics. And most of these are based on the lives of famous sports personalities.

The trend has reportedly proved to be a success as several films including "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" and "Mary Kom" turned out to be hit at the box office.

Here is the list of a few such films:

"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag"

"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" was a film based on well-known Indian athlete Milkha Singh. Actor Farhan Akhtar played the role of the sports star, who was a national champion runner and an Olympian. The film became the sixth highest grossing film in Bollywood last year.

"Mary Kom"

Priyanka Chopra appeared in a new avatar this year in her film. She portrayed the character of five-time female World Boxing Champion and Olympic bronze medallist 'Mary Kom.' Sanjay Leela Bhansali-produced film, "Mary Kom", received positive response from critics and was appreciated by audience as well.

"Paan Singh Tomar"

Bollywood's ace actor Irrfan Khan gave a blockbuster in 2012 with "Paan Singh Tomar." The film was based on Indian athlete Paan Singh Tomar. He was an Indian Army soldier who turned his way to sports and won a gold medal at Indian National Games and then somehow was forced to become a notorious bandit.

The film was first premiered in 2010 at British Film Institute London Film Festival. It won Best Feature Film and Best Actor in 60th National Film Awards in 2012.

"MS Dhoni – The Untold Story"

Neeraj Pandey of "A Wednesday" fame recently joined the league of making biopics. He is reportedly helming the Indian captain MS Dhoni's biography, for which Sushant Singh Rajput has been chosen.

Considering the facts that Dhoni has retired as Test captain on 30 December and that he has a huge fan-following, "MS Dhoni - The Untold Story" is expected to pull crowds to the theatres in 2015.

Mohammed Azharuddin Biopic

Emraan Hashmi has been finalised to play the biopic of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin. It is said that the film won't be entirely about the game, but it will mainly focus on the legend's life. There are reports that Kareena Kapoor Khan will play the character of the cricketer's second wife, Sangeeta Bijlani and Prachi Desai will be his first wife Naureen.

Dhyan Chand Biopic

Director-producer Karan Johar has decided to make a biopic on late hockey legend Dhyan Chand and thus, bought the rights as well. There were rumours that Shah Rukh Khan will step in the legend's shoes, but now it might be Ranbir Kapoor.

Yuvraj Singh Biopic

Actor Abhishek Bachchan has expressed his desires to work on a biopic based on Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh. He was inspired by the autobiography of the cricketer, "Test Of My Life", which was released in 2013. It is based on the struggle Yuvraj had to go through, on the field and also when he was battling cancer.

Sania Mirza Biopic

An ace female Indian tennis player, Sania Mirza, once mentioned that she doesn't want her life to be portrayed on silver screen. She said she is a private person and don't want to share it on camera. But, later she chose Deepika Padukone to play her role,.

"But if someone puts me on the spot and I have to choose, then I would want Deepika Padukone to play my role," she remarked.
