The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday referred Congress leaders Mani Shankar Aiyar and Salman Khurshid to Isis and Taliban propagandists for criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reports said.
In a Pakistani TV channel, Aiyar said that the India-Pakistan relations will improve if Modi is removed from his post of PM. Khurshid criticised the PM during his invitation lecture at the Jinnah Institute in Islamabad last week.
BJP slammed the two Congress leaders, saying they have insulted India and its Prime Minister in Pakistan.
The party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi sought an explanation from the Congress leadership on the issue.
"Some people are behaving and conducting themselves as propagandists for ISIS (Islamic State) and Taliban. We need to watch out for fringe elements in India," IANS quoted Lekhi as saying.
"At a time when the entire world stood up to condemn the Paris attack, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Salman Khurshid were speaking ill of our prime minister on foreign land. When Azam Khan remarked on Paris attacks, the SP was sensible to criticise what he said. But the Congress has not condemned him yet," she added.
Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar remarked that Aiyar has lost his mental imbalance.
"I feel Mani Shankar Aiyar has lost his mental balance to tell so to a Pakistan channel. Aiyar's statement is not only an insult to the Prime Minister but also to the nation," The Economic Times quoted Javadekar as saying.
"It is Pakistan's way not to resolve Indo-Pak issues. But it is Modi who began the process for India's good relations with other countries, including Pakistan," he added.
