It has not happened many times in the past, but the entire Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru being declared sold out ahead of a football match gives reason enough to believe that Wednesday is indeed a special day for the city. Home team Bengaluru FC take on defending Asian champions Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) in the AFC Cup 2016 semifinals.

Only East Bengal and Dempo have so far made it to this stage in the prestigious Asian competition in the past. Never have Bengaluru FC -- the Indian football club that came into existence only in 2013 -- went on to win two I-League titles and a Federation Cup title in three years.

"SOLD OUT! Tickets to West Block A, West Platinum, East Upper and East Lower are now sold out on Book My Show [online ticket booking portal]. It's set to be electric!" mentioned Bengaluru FC in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

A choc-a-bloc stadium waiting to cheer for the Bengaluru FC team during the match will remain one of the most surreal moments in the history of Indian football for sure. While the official attendance figure can only be revealed during the match, it is expected the number of spectators could cross 20,000 for the AFC Cup 2016 game.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) honchos Praful Patel, Subrata Datta, Kushal Das and Sunando Dhar could be seen at the VIP stands during the match. Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) President Aaditya Thackeray, meanwhile, has confirmed his presence for the match.
