Barcelona star Neymar asked to serve major prison sentence

Neymar has been asked to serve a two-year prison sentence by a Spanish court in a major development that took place on Wednesday. This relates to the Brazil football superstar's transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.

A Spanish court ruled that the renowned La Liga football club didn't pay their share of transfer money to the Brazilian investment group called DIS, which owned 40 percent of Neymar's transfer rights. According to Marca, the La Liga giants paid at least ten million euros lesser than what was initially claimed to be owed by the club.

Former Barcelona football club president Sandro Rosell has also been asked to serve a prison term of five years, while the La Liga giants are fined 8.4 million euros ($8.9 million) by judge Jose Perals.

DIS, who remained the strategic partner of Brazilian football club Santos until they had a new president, presented their lawsuit in the Spanish High Court on Wednesday, mentioning they wanted an eight-year jail term for Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu and the former club president Rosell, who resigned in 2014 over his alleged role in the affair.

He was present in the court, alongside Bartomeu, Neymar and Neymar's father, earlier in February this year. Neymar, 24, moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2013 for a reported transfer fee of €57.1 million. Bartomeu had then set his buyout clause at €190 million.
