Bajaj Auto launched its most powerful motorcycle, the Dominar 400, in December 2016. It received a positive response and found around 3,000 takers in the first two months. However, there was a slight dip in sales in April. The sales figures for May also indicate that Dominar 400 is yet to recover from the decline.

In an interview with Money Control, S Ravikumar, president, business development, Bajaj Auto said, "We have retailed about 1,500 units in the domestic market, and exports has been around 1,200 units. That's almost 2.700 units happening there in the Dominar."

Bajaj Auto commenced exports of the Dominar 400 for many markets, including Latin America, in April. The move seems to have dented the supply of Dominar 400 in the domestic market. In April, Dominar 400's domestic sales were nearly 2,000 while it was 3,000 unit sales in the initial months.

The dip in the sale of Dominar 400 comes in line with the overall decline in sales of Bajaj Auto. The Pune-based automaker posted decline in sales of motorcycles by 13 percent from 1,79,822 units in May 2016 to 1,56,523 units in May 2017. Two-wheeler exports also saw a decline by five percent from 1,27,522 units in May 2016 to 1,20,592 in May 2017.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto increased the price of its flagship motorcycle yet again last month. The Dominar 400, launched at Rs. 1.36 lakh for the regular variant and Rs. 1.50 lakh for the ABS variant in December 2016, is now priced at Rs. 1.39 lakh and Rs 1.53 lakh (all-prices ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.

This is the second hike in the price of the Dominar 400 in a span of two months. In April, Bajaj Auto raised the price of the power cruiser by Rs. 2,000 for both variants. In the latest price revision, the increase is Rs. 1,000.

The Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.3cc 4-valve DTS-i liquid-cooled engine and churns out 34bhp and 35Nm of torque. The motorcycle can cruise from 0 to 100kmph in just 8.23 seconds.
