World number 11 PV Sindhu and Indian number one Kidambi Srikanth cruised to the third round of the Badminton World Championships, while the doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa crashed out in the second round in Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Playing her first match of the Championships, Sindhu took just 40 minutes to register a straight game victory over Russia's Olga Golovanova. She will be up against sixth seeded Japanese Yeon Ju Bae in the third round.

Sindhu looked rusty at the start but she managed to catch up to the Russian and open a 14-10 advantage in the first game. The 19-year-old was in complete control after that and clinched the opening game 21-12.

Golovanova got off to a flying start in the second game and built an 11-6 lead over the Hyderabadi. The CWG bronze medallist lifted her game when the rubber seemed to be going into the decider, and completed a 21-12, 21-17 victory over the Russian.

In the men's singles event, Srikanth also registered a straight game victory over England's Rajiv Ouseph in the second round. Srikanth was in command right from the start and took a 15-10 lead over Ouseph, but the Englishman did not surrender the game and put up a fight.

Srikanth, however, was in no mood to let the game slip away and clinched the opener 21-18. The second game was more lopsided as the Indian never allowed his opponent to rally back and clinched the match 21-18, 21-13.

In the third round, the world number 23 Srikanth is now pitted against world number two Chinese Long Chen, who thrashed his German opponent Marc Zwiebler 21-11, 21-10 in the second round.

Meanwhile, men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy advanced into the third round with a 21-19, 21-19 victory. The Indians stunned 15th seed Japanese duo of Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata to register a straight game victory in 44 minutes.

Attri and Reddy will lock horns with second seeded South Koreans Yong Dae Lee and Yeon Seong Yoo in the third round.

Meanwhile, the Chinese pair of Qing Tian and Yunlei Zhao registered yet another straight forward victory over Jwala and Ashwini. The Chinese players extended their unbeaten run to 7-0 over their Indian opponents.

Tian-Zhao faced a tough fight from Jwala-Ashwini in the opening game, but they thrashed the Indian pair in the second to complete a 21-16, 21-8 victory in just 31 minutes.

In another second round encounter, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar lost their men's doubles second round match against fifth seeded South Koreans Ki Jung Kim and Sa Rang Kim 21-15, 21-17 in 33 minutes.

Ajay Jayaram also lost his singles second round match against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-17, 21-14.
