Nico Velez of NorthEast United FC cuts past ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder to score the first goalISL / Press release

NorthEast United's campaign in ISL 2016 has almost stalled after they yet again failed to record a win on Thursday against Atletico de Kolkata in a derby of sorts at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata. The result of the match turned out to be a 1-1 draw.

Argentine forward Nico Velez opened scoring for the away side in as early as the 5th minute of the match after capitalising on a defensive error by the home side and slotting it comfortably past ATK custodian Debjit Majumder to draw first blood.

Following that, both sides tried creating plenty of chances but the goalkeepers -- Debjit and Subrata Paul -- remained on top form.

Just when it looked like Nelo Vingada's side were on course their first win from six games in ISL 2016, Canadian striker Iain Hume dashed all hopes for NorthEast United FC as he scored on the 90th minute to frustrate the away fans and clinch a crucial point for Atletico de Kolkata.

From Javi Lara's corner, Helder Postiga headed the ball onto the rushing Hume, who slotted it powerfully past Subrata for the equaliser.

The draw did nothing for either side as ATK are still fourth on the table, with 14 points from ten games, while NorthEast United stay in the seventh place, with 11 points from ten games. Both teams have three more league games to play in the ISL 2016 this season.
