Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly looking to make a move for free agents Joseph Yobo and Diego Lugano to solve his side's defensive problems.

The Gunners are currently undergoing a crisis in the defensive department as their right-back Mathieu Debuchy is currently facing up to 2-3 months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The absence of Debuchy, who was signed as a direct replacement for Bacary Sagna, had a deep impact on the Gunners as they succumbed to 0-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League opener.

The Frenchman's replacement 19-year-old Hector Bellerin struggled against Dortmund, making the Gunners very vulnerable at the back.

However, the main concern for Arsenal is in the heart of the defence rather than the right-back position.

While North London club do have Calum Chambers, who was unavailable during the Gunners opening Champions League game against Dortmund through illness, to fill in for Debuchy at the right-back position, they do not have back up in the centre-back position if either Per Mertsacker and Laurent Koscielny are suspended or injured.

Earlier, the Gunners had Thomas Vermaelen to cover for the Mertsacker and Koscielny at the back. But now Arsenal have no one to rely on as the Belgian, who was unhappy after getting very limited first team football last season, was sold to Barcelona for a reported £15 million this summer.

This is why Wenger is reportedly looking to snap up either Yobo or Lugano on a free transfer. Yobo, who formerly played for Everton from 2003 to 2010, is currently without a club after being released by Turkish side Fenerbahçe this summer.

The 34-year-old Nigerian defender could probably solve Arsenal's problems as he has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League. Although he is not the same player he used to be before, he will probably be a useful signing as a backup centre-back.

Uruguayan defender Lugano, who is also without a club after being released by West Bromwich Albion this summer, is also another option for Wenger even though he has not got much experience playing in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old, who has played in clubs like Fenerbahçe and Paris Saint-Germain, will also probably prove to be a good signing as a backup for Mertsacker and Koscielny.
