Wenger says that he does not want to comment about players from other clubs

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to comment on whether he is interested in signing Liverpool's contract rebel Raheem Sterling this summer or not.

The 20-year-old forward, who has two years remaining on his contract with Liverpool, recently rejected a new deal worth £100,000 per week from Liverpool, insisting that he would only be opening contractual talks with the Reds after the end of season.

As a result, Sterling's Liverpool future is in doubt, especially with several clubs interested in securing him this summer.

Arsenal are believed to be one of main suitors interested in the England forward, but Wenger refused to comment on whether the Gunners will be making a move for him this summer.

"Raheem Sterling is a top player, everybody in the country knows that now. He is a very important player for Liverpool of course," said Wenger, according to Sky Sports, ahead of his side's important Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

"I do not want to speak about any move. We are not in a transfer period, we are in front of a big game. I respect Liverpool and I do not want to go into any supposed move for any of their players."

When asked what he thought about Sterling rejecting a new deal from Liverpool, the Frenchman replied: "I don't want to interfere in (reports over contract negotiations), especially 48 hours before the game. That's down to Liverpool, it is not my problem."

Meanwhile, Wenger threw some light on the future of his own midfielder Abou Diaby, who has been able to play in only a handful of games in the last two years due to persistent knee injuries.

"I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future. He has to make a decision," said Wenger.

"Of course he (Diaby) understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way. I will see where we go from there. I wouldn't like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence."
