Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were attending the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend to promote their respective upcoming movies. Depp was at the SDCC with his Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald whereas Heard was with Jason Momoa for Aquaman at the Warner Bros. panel in Hall H.

The two exes, who have never come together ever since Heard accused Depp of domestic violence soon after she filed for divorce, were programmed to make an appearance at the same venue on the same day during the convention.

However, thanks to the Hall H schedule, the two actors avoided an awkward run-in. Depp paid a surprise visit at the Warner Bros. Comic-Con Hall H panel. This was his first cinematic appearance ever since fans revealed their concerns about his health.

The actor surprised fans by dressing up as the Grindelwald from the Fantastic Beasts movie and delivered an in-character speech, reports from the venue revealed. The team then released the trailer but the audience booed at the clip.

Whereas Heard came in her casual self to release the Aquaman trailer with her co-stars and director James Wan at the DC panel. The two stars had minimal chance of a run-in because their panel appearance was scheduled with almost an hour's gap, giving both of them the space to make their exit and avoid a reunion.

This caused some outrage online. Fans were not happy that Heard and her reportedly abusive ex-husband were scheduled to appear on the same stage. Many deemed it "inappropriate" and "irresponsible."

Back in May 2016, Heard asked for a domestic violence restraining order against Depp after she opened up about his abusive behaviour. The accusations turned their divorce proceedings into an ugly affair.

Depp's lawyers issued a statement on his behalf refuting Heard's allegations and called out her claims "salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies." This led to Depp filing for a defamation case. Their nasty brawl ended with Depp paying Heard a $7 million settlement (which she vowed to donate to charity).

Their public divorce almost risked Depp's role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. However, writer JK Rowling defended Depp's casting and said, "Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies."
