Apple, which will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company's first iPhone, is said be leaving no stone unturned to make the iPhone 7 successor's launch epic. The latest buzz on the iPhone 8 series is that it will have a much superior camera.

It has come to light that Apple is reportedly in talks with Innotek, a subsidiary of the South Korean consumer electronics major LG, for collaboration in the development of a new 3D camera technology for a device to be released in the second half of 2017, the Korea Economic Daily reported citing company insiders.

This apparently means the iPhone 8 series, which is certain to make the debut in September next year, will house this feature.

The report further added that Apple has roped in LinX, which it acquired in April 2015 for camera development. For the uninitiated, LinX is an Israeli-based camera start-up company which is known to have developed smart camera application that has the ability to take in 3D information captured by a smart device's camera. It is also said to be capable of refocusing an image after it has been captured, in-depth measurement of the true dimensions of objects in the scene, 3D object modelling and also real-time background replacement for video calls.

This may sound farfetched for commoners, but this has been already mastered by Google ATAP (Advanced Technology and Projects) team's Project Tango. It was specifically designed for 3D-based GPS navigation system and augmented reality gaming in smartphones. Earlier this month, Lenovo launched the first commercial Project Tango device dubbed as the Phab 2 Pro. But, its ability, for now, is limited to a few applications, including 3D shopping on e-commerce mobile apps.

Having said that, if Apple truly implements 3D photography in the iPhone 8, it will definitely not be a half-baked application, as the Cupertino company is known to go an extra mile to make their device with full-fledged features and set new benchmarks.

Apple is also expected to incorporate OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) feature to the telephoto CCM (Compact Camera Module) in the two of three iPhone 8 series models to improve the photo quality and optical zoom range.

Apple, like always, has not made any comments on the iPhone 8's 3D camera rumours.

Other expected features of Apple iPhone 8 series:

As per the information we have gathered so far, Apple iPhone 8 will come in three screen sizes, one 4.7-inch LCD variant with single lens camera while the other two variants -- 5.1-inch OLED screen and another with 5.5-inch LCD display -- will house dual-lens snapper.

Apple is also planning to bring the bezel-less feature to the iPhone 8 series and let go of the physical home button, which houses the fingerprint sensor on the front display panel in current and older models.

The new iPhone 8 series is also expected to come with 3D touch sensor integrated right into the screen and also boast Always On Display (AOD), like we see in the flagship Moto series and the recently-released Samsung Galaxy S7 series.

Under-the-hood, the iPhone 8 series is expected to house Apple A11 Fusion processor backed by high-capacity RAM and battery.

It's a developing story. Watch this space for more updates on iPhone 8 series.
