A woman was killed and eight civilians were injured because of heavy shelling by Pakistani troops along the border in the Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has been targeting villages as well as 13 border outposts since last night.
Indian security forces had resorted to heavy firing near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir killing five Pakistani Rangers since Thursday, after Pakistan fired on BSF posts in Jammu's Samba and Hiranagar sectors in yet another ceasefire violation.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has ordered BSF to fight fire with fire.
The latest ceasefire violation was the fourth by the Rangers in as many days and the eighth in the last nine days.
Pakistani Rangers fired on a group of Indian soldiers on patrol on Tuesday, killing a BSF jawan in the process.
Four Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliatory fire by the Indians. The firing from the Indian side stopped when the Pakistani Rangers requested for time to remove the bodies by raising a white flag.
Pakistan's Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz had in a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj alleged that India killed two Pakistani Rangers after calling them for a meeting on the International Border on 31 December.
India rubbished the allegations as baseless.
