The search engine giant Google announced its Android One program during June this year at Google I/O conference to bring some feature-rich affordable Android phones for the developing world. It introduced three budget phones, manufactured by Karbonn, Spice and Micromax.
Reportedly, Spice Dream Uno, Karbonn Sparkle V and Micromax Canvas A1 will receive the worthy Android 5.0 Lollipop update by January 2015.
According to a recent report, Google will unleash the Lollipop update by second or third week of December and soon all three manufacturers might release the update for their users. Spice Mobility CEO, Prashant Bindal has expressed that the company's Android One smartphone Dream Uno might get the latest candy flavoured update by January next year.
Though the other two manufacturers, Karbonn and Micromax have still kept mum about the update, it is expected that all the three devices will get the update at the same time.
The Android one handsets are based on stock Android operating system and similar hardware specification by Google's instruction. Since there is no extra layer of custom made interface over the OS, the manufacturers might not delay the roll out process.
Significantly, the Android One initiative didn't receive the expected market as the smartphone makers like Motorola, Xiaomi, Huawei and ASUS are fighting hard with good hardware configuration at an aggressive price bracket.
All the three Android One handsets currently run on Android KitKat 4.4.4 and are available through online and offline stores in India at a price between ₹6,299 and ₹6,499. Big e-retailers like Snapdeal and Flipkart are also offering good discounts for the phones.
Meanwhile, Google has also announced to team up with original equipment manufacturer like HTC, Lava, Xolo, Intex, Asus, Alcatel Onetouch, Lenovo and Panasonic to roll out new handsets by early next year.
