Xiaomi is tight-lipped on the release of Android 7.0 Nougat update to its eligible devices, but it appears to have started working on it. A screenshot of the company's Nougat-based MIUI 9 with version number 9 6.9.23 has been posted on Weibo, giving a hint that the firmware update could come to Xiaomi handsets earlier than expected.

It is reported that the Chinese technology giant is planning to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9 operating system by the end of this year or early next year. So, some Xiaomi handsets are expected to receive the firmware within this year.

Xiaomi is reportedly planning to release Google's new firmware to devices like Xiaomi Mi 5, Redmi Pro, Mi 4s, Mi 4c, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3s, Redmi 3A, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Mi Pad 2, and Mi 4i. However, a few popular handsets like Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 3, Mi 4 and Redmi 1S will not get the OS as the processor in these handsets is not compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat's Vulcan API.

Google has already rolled out Android 7.0 Nougat update to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and Android One. LG V20 is the first smartphone to be shipped with latest firmware.

It may be mentioned that Android 7.0 Nougat comes with features like multi-window, direct reply notifications, extra power efficiency, Google Assistant, VR interface, seamless updates, screen zoom, clear all, data saver, improved file browser, instant apps, app switch, bundled notifications, improved Java 8 language support, and new emojis.
